Research Motivation and Knowledge Sharing

The Research Talk Series – 4 was successfully conducted by the Staff Development Centre, in collaboration with the University Research Committee, on 16 September 2026 at the Smart Lecture Hall, Faculty of Applied Science, University of Vavuniya. The session was delivered by Prof. V. Thiviyanathan, Research Grantee, USA, who served as the resource person.

The programme focused on strengthening research knowledge and capacity among academic staff by providing practical insights into developing research ideas, identifying research problems, and following a systematic research process. In addition, the resource person highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary research and collaboration in addressing complex issues faced by society.

Furthermore, participants gained awareness of research funding opportunities, available research facilities, and higher study and research opportunities abroad, including guidance on identifying and approaching suitable supervisors. Moreover, Prof. V. Thiviyanathan shared his research experiences and provided practical advice based on his academic and research background.

The session was interactive, and participants actively engaged in discussions and raised questions related to their own research activities. Consequently, the resource person provided guidance and suggestions in response to their queries.

Overall, the programme enhanced participants’ research knowledge, awareness, and confidence. As a result, it encouraged them to develop meaningful research, seek funding and collaboration opportunities, and explore higher study and research opportunities locally and overseas.
