The Staff Development Centre, in collaboration with the University Research Committee, successfully conducted the Research Talk Series – 3 on 19 August 2026 at CL 1 – Computer Lab, Faculty of Applied Science, University of Vavuniya, with the participation of 32 academic staff and 2 academic support staff. Dr. (Ms.) J. Samantha Tharani, Senior Lecturer, Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Science, University of Jaffna, delivered the session as the resource person.

The programme focused on strengthening research interest and capacity among university staff by improving their understanding of identifying suitable research areas, recognizing research gaps, developing impactful research projects, and planning their research careers. Participants also gained awareness of interdisciplinary research collaboration, research funding opportunities, scholarships, international research opportunities, and the importance of building professional research networks.

The resource person shared her research experiences, challenges, and practical insights, which motivated participants, particularly young researchers, to develop their research skills and actively engage in meaningful research activities. The interactive nature of the session encouraged participants to discuss research-related challenges, explore opportunities for collaboration, and consider strategies for developing strong research proposals. Overall, the programme enhanced participants’ research knowledge, awareness, confidence, and motivation, while encouraging them to seek funding and collaboration opportunities and contribute to research with meaningful academic and societal impact.
