The University of Vavuniya Road Race Team successfully participated in the Jaffna Runners Marathon 2026 organized by Jaffna Runners on Sunday, 10 May 2026.
The marathon commenced from the Jaffna Fort and included 5 km, 10 km, and 15 km race categories aimed at promoting physical and mental well-being among the community.
More than 150 participants from various parts of the island took part in the event, creating a competitive and inspiring atmosphere that encouraged sportsmanship, endurance, and healthy living.
Representing the University of Vavuniya, A. Jacob, G. Sriharan, M. Thilagan, S. Kajeevan, V. Thanuharan, and AMM. Mufthi participated with great enthusiasm and commitment, demonstrating remarkable determination and team spirit throughout the marathon.
The University team achieved commendable results in several race categories. In the 15 km event, M. Thilagan secured 7th place while G. Sriharan obtained 10th place. In the 10 km event, A. Jacob achieved 10th place and V. Thanuharan secured 13th place. In the 5 km event, AMM. Mufthi obtained 9th place while S. Kajeevan secured 10th place.
The participation and achievements of the University Road Race Team reflect the continued commitment of the University of Vavuniya toward promoting sports, physical fitness, and student excellence through extracurricular and competitive sporting activities.
