The Career Guidance Unit of the University of Vavuniya successfully conducted a virtual workshop titled “Opportunities to Study Abroad” on 10th September 2025, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. via Zoom. The session was facilitated by SAGO Overseas Education, Jaffna, and attracted active participation from a large number of undergraduates across faculties.
The workshop provided students with comprehensive insights into higher education opportunities available in countries such as the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, and Europe. Key areas covered included admission requirements, scholarship options, visa procedures, financial planning, and career prospects after graduation. Special emphasis was placed on aligning academic aspirations with international opportunities and preparing effectively for global competitiveness.
Students actively engaged with the facilitators through a dedicated Q&A session, where they clarified doubts regarding subject selection, application timelines, and documentation processes. The interactive format enabled participants to gain practical knowledge, tailored advice, and confidence to pursue overseas education opportunities.
The outcomes of the workshop were highly positive. Participants reported increased awareness of available pathways, greater understanding of the challenges and requirements involved, and improved readiness to plan for future international studies. The session also motivated students to consider studying abroad as a viable option for academic and professional advancement.
Overall, this initiative successfully met its objective of equipping undergraduates with valuable guidance and expanding their horizons beyond local opportunities. The Career Guidance Unit remains committed to organizing such programs as part of its annual work plan to enhance students’ career development and global exposure.
