The Physical Education Unit of the University of Vavuniya organized a Chess Tournament on 02 October 2025 to celebrate the 4th Anniversary of the university. The event was held at the University of Vavuniya premises in Pambaimadu.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. A. Atputharajah, served as the Chief Guest, while Mr. S. A. Jude Leon, Chairman of the Sports Advisory Board, was the Guest of Honor. The ceremony began with the lighting of the oil lamp by the guests, arbiters, and students, followed by a welcome speech delivered by Mr. R. Sivasegaran.
The tournament matches commenced at 8:30 AM. More than 250 students participated in the event, competing in the following categories:
- Under-07 (Boys and Girls)
- Under-09 (Boys and Girls)
- Under-11 (Boys and Girls)
- Under-13 (Boys and Girls)
- Under-15 (Boys and Girls)
At the end of the program, the Physical Education Unit distributed participation certificates to all attendees. The Vice Chancellor and Chairman of the Sports Advisory Board awarded trophies to the winners who secured 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in each category. The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Instructress of Physical Education-Ms.G.Thusyanthy, expressing gratitude to all participants, guests, and organizers for making the event a success.
