The University of Vavuniya Students’ Union, in collaboration with the Physical Education Unit, organized the Battle of Brothers Cricket and Football matches on the 25th and 26th of October 2025 at the University Playground. Students from three faculties participated in the tournament: the Faculty of Business Studies, the Faculty of Applied Science, and the Faculty of Technological Studies.
The opening ceremony was held on 25th October 2025, with the Vice Chancellor serving as the Chief Guest of the tournament.
Preliminary cricket and football matches were held on both days between the three faculty teams. On the final day of the cricket tournament, the Faculty of Technological Studies faced off against the Faculty of Business Studies. The Faculty of Technological Studies scored 119 runs for 5 wickets in 15 overs. In response, the Faculty of Business Studies managed only 67 runs with 7 wickets down. As a result, the Faculty of Technological Studies won the cricket final.
Due to limited time, the football teams did not play a full match and proceeded directly to a penalty shootout. In the final, the Faculty of Business Studies played against the Faculty of Applied Science. The Faculty of Business Studies scored 4 goals, while the Faculty of Applied Science scored only 2 goals, securing the victory for the Faculty of Business Studies.
At the end of the tournament, trophies were distributed to the winners by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya, Professor A. Atputharajah, along with Dr. K. Arjunan (Proctor), Mr. S. Suman (Marshal), and Mr. R. Sivasegaran (Acting Director of the Physical Education Unit).
