The Physical Education Unit of the University of Vavuniya successfully organised the Inter-University Women’s Elle Championship on 15th August 2025 at the University of Vavuniya grounds.
The tournament brought together three universities: Eastern University, Sri Lanka; Rajarata University of Sri Lanka; and the University of Vavuniya. After a series of highly competitive matches, Eastern University, Sri Lanka, emerged as the overall champions, securing the prestigious trophy. Rajarata University of Sri Lanka claimed second place, while the University of Vavuniya, as the host, showcased a commendable performance and exemplary sportsmanship.
The event was graced by the distinguished presence of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya, Senior Professor A. Atputharajah, who attended as the Chief Guest. His participation greatly enhanced the significance of the tournament and reflected the university’s unwavering commitment to promoting sports, encouraging women’s participation in athletics, and fostering inter-university collaboration.
The Championship not only highlighted the athletic excellence of the participating universities but also served as a meaningful platform for empowering women athletes, fostering teamwork, and strengthening bonds across universities.
