From January 16th to 18th, 2025, the University of Vavuniya hosted a three-day TOEFL Benchmarked Speaking and Writing Workshop, facilitated by Jennifer Goodman, an English Language Fellow enlisted by the USA Education Ministry and facilitated by the U.S. State Department. The workshop was designed to enhance the speaking and writing skills of students and faculty members, benchmarked to TOEFL standards. It catered to participants from various faculties, including Business Studies, Technological Studies, and Applied Science, as well as staff from the Department of English Language Teaching (DELT). Additionally, a session was held for A/L-qualified participants at Siththivinayagar School, Mannar. The workshops, conducted at designated venues within the university, aimed to develop participants’ ability to perform effectively in the TOEFL speaking and writing activities, focusing on critical components such as clarity, coherence, and academic writing.
