Diploma in Early Childhood Education Certificate Course – 2025/2026

The University of Vavuniya, Sri Lanka, Centre for Distance and Continuing Education, invites applications for the Diploma in Early Childhood Education Certificate Course 2025/2026.

Eligibility for the Diploma in Early Childhood Education

Applicants must satisfy one of the following requirements. They may present a pass in the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination, along with a credit pass in Tamil and Mathematics at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination.

Alternatively, they may hold National Vocational Qualification Level 4 (NVQ-4), together with a credit pass in Tamil and Mathematics at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination, in six approved subjects.

As a further option, applicants may present a credit pass in Tamil and Mathematics at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination in six approved subjects, combined with a minimum of 03 years of experience teaching at a preschool.

Finally, the university will also accept any other equivalent higher educational qualification that it recognizes as suitable for admission.

In addition: applicants must be 50 years of age or below on the application closing date.

Diploma in Early Childhood Education Course Details

  • Duration: Three semesters (15 months), with lectures held on weekends
  • Course fee: Rs. 60,000.00
  • Application fee: Rs. 500.00
  • Selection: the university will select applications based on merit. Only applicants who meet the qualification criteria and pass the written examination (covering language ability, common sense, and pre-school teaching-related questions) will proceed to the interview.

How to Apply

First, download the application form from www.vau.ac.lk. Next, complete it and attach a deposit slip for Rs. 500.00 paid to the account below. Afterward, submit the completed application either directly or by registered post to the Assistant Registrar, Centre for Distance and Continuing Education, University of Vavuniya, Park Road, Vavuniya. Finally, clearly write “Diploma in Early Childhood Education Certificate Course 2025/2026” on the top left-hand corner of the envelope. Applicants who registered previously need not reapply.
