About the Centre

The University Grants Commission had initiated the establishment of Staff Development Centres in all universities to undertake the activities that provide opportunities for the growth and career development of all categories of staff by facilitating the acquisition of post-recruitment qualifications for confirmation and promotion; service-specific advanced knowledge and skills through in-service training; and the knowledge of current global trends towards their sustainability in the career, which would uplift the quality of the nation.

Vision

To be a centre of excellence in training for the development of efficient and effective personnel who could contribute significantly to their institution’s growth and development.

Mission

To conduct and nurture activities that would promote and contribute to capacity building of staff of the University of Vavuniya.

Goals

  • To provide employees’ orientation training to all categories of newly recruited staff of the university.
  • To train the academic staff members of the university in teaching methodologies to attain high academic accreditation nationally and internationally.
  • To train academic and administrative staff members on research management, which would lead them to be active contributors to a rich research culture.
  • To train in the development of computer-based learning material for conventional, open, and distance learning modes.
  • To provide training assistance to improve human relationships at workplaces in a workforce.
  • To maintain gender equity and equality among the staff
  • To enhance the knowledge of ‘soft skills’ among the staff for their career development.

Functions of SDC

  • To identify the needs for staff development.
  • To organise in-house programs for widely required training.
  • To make staff aware of external training programs.
  • To award certificates of participation and completion for in-house training programs.
  • To conduct employee orientation programs for newly recruited academic, administrative, and non-academic staff.
