A delegation from the Ministry of Science and Technology, led by Mr. Y. I. M. Navavi, Secretary to the Ministry, visited the University of Vavuniya on 11th July 2025 to conduct a site inspection for the proposed Incubation Centre for Sustainable Food Innovation. The delegation included Ms. Kumari Meegahakotuwa (Director General – Planning), Dr. Uthapala Alahakoon (Director – Development), Mr. Manoj Karunarathne (Director – Vidatha), Mr. M. Jeyasarma Goonarathne (Deputy Director – Vidatha), Ms. S. K. S. Aravinhi (Assistant Director – Vidatha), Ms. Lathika Dilrukhshi (District Vidatha Officer – Ministry), Mr. Sugath Jeyavi Premalal (Personal Assistant to the Hon. Minister), and Mr. Thabendran (Vidatha Officer – District Secretariat Office, Vavuniya). The Ministry has launched this initiative as a pilot project in 2025, and the University of Vavuniya has been selected as a partner institution to establish the incubation centre for food innovation. The primary objective of the project is to support regional inventors and entrepreneurs by providing access to product testing, advanced technology, specialized equipment, and value-added services, thereby fostering innovation and sustainable food solutions in the region.
