The Physical Education Unit of the University of Vavuniya, in collaboration with Sam’s College, successfully organised a two-day Table Tennis Coaching Camp on July 26 and 27, 2025, at the university’s indoor complex.
This initiative aimed to promote table tennis among students of various faculties, especially beginners, while fostering sportsmanship, teamwork, and interest in physical education. The camp featured a combination of introductory coaching sessions and basic umpire training and culminated in a friendly tournament, which was enthusiastically received by all participants.
Over 40 students from different academic backgrounds took part in the program, many of whom were new to the sport. The training was delivered by an experienced team of coaches from Sam’s College, who provided personalised attention and professional guidance, ensuring that every participant gained valuable insight into the game’s techniques and rules.
The umpire training component added an extra dimension to the camp, helping students understand the responsibilities of officiating a match and emphasising the importance of fair play and discipline in sports.
The Physical Education Unit extends its heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Shanmugam Samuel, Founder and CEO of Sam’s College, for his generous sponsorship and support in making this event a great success. His contribution enabled the provision of quality equipment, refreshments, and a comfortable environment for all participants.
This collaborative initiative not only enhanced student engagement in co-curricular activities but also laid the groundwork for a promising partnership between Sam’s College and the University of Vavuniya.
