DevSprint

The IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Student Branch Affinity Group of the University of Vavuniya, in collaboration with the IEEE Student Branch and GitHub Community Sri Lanka as the knowledge partner, successfully hosted “DevSprint” on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

Held across LH1, LH2, LH3 (Faculty of Applied Science) and TLH1 (Faculty of Technological Studies), this full-day technical event welcomed over 200 enthusiastic undergraduates from the University of Vavuniya, University of Jaffna, and Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, with a strong turnout from first and third-year students.

The event was proudly supported by WSO2 as the Bronze Partner and honored by the presence of esteemed guests:

  • Mr. T. Kartheeswaran and Mrs. R. Yasotha – Senior Lecturers, Faculty of Applied Science

The event commenced with participant registration, followed by a welcome address by Ms. Chamodi Indrejith, Chair of IEEE WIE – UOV. A motivational speech by the Vice Chancellor highlighted the significance of collaborative, technology-driven learning and open-source contribution.

Key Highlights:

  • 🔑 Keynote Session: Delivered by Mr. Suvin Kodituwakku, Senior Software Engineer at WSO2 and active contributor to the GitHub Community Sri Lanka.

  • 🛠️ Parallel Technical Tracks:

    • Artificial Intelligence

    • Cloud Applications

    • Mobile Application Development

These sessions were led by top-tier speakers:

  • Mr. Chamod Shehanka Perera – Software Engineer II, Circles | CNCF Ambassador

  • Mr. Avin Indrasoma – GitHub Campus Expert

  • Ask Me Anything (AMA): A vibrant, all-participant session allowed students to directly interact with industry professionals, ask questions, and gain career insights.

Throughout the day, students engaged in:

  • Hands-on coding sessions

  • Interactive technical discussions

  • Networking with peers and professionals

  • Exposure to real-world software engineering practices

Participants also enjoyed refreshments, event swags, and an enriching community atmosphere.

The event concluded with closing remarks and received overwhelmingly positive feedback, affirming its success in empowering future tech leaders with essential skills, confidence, and industry connections.
