{"id":6134,"date":"2025-07-18T06:14:08","date_gmt":"2025-07-18T06:14:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vau.ac.lk\/ieeeuov\/?p=6134"},"modified":"2025-07-18T06:16:17","modified_gmt":"2025-07-18T06:16:17","slug":"devsprint","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vau.ac.lk\/ieeeuov\/devsprint\/","title":{"rendered":"DevSprint"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <strong>IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Student Branch Affinity Group<\/strong> of the <strong>University of Vavuniya<\/strong>, in collaboration with the <strong>IEEE Student Branch<\/strong> and <strong>GitHub Community Sri Lanka<\/strong> as the <strong>knowledge partner<\/strong>, successfully hosted <strong>\u201cDevSprint\u201d<\/strong> on <strong>Saturday, April 26, 2025<\/strong>, from <strong>8:30 AM to 5:30 PM<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Held across <strong>LH1, LH2, LH3 (Faculty of Applied Science)<\/strong> and <strong>TLH1 (Faculty of Technological Studies)<\/strong>, this full-day technical event welcomed over <strong>200 enthusiastic undergraduates<\/strong> from the <strong>University of Vavuniya<\/strong>, <strong>University of Jaffna<\/strong>, and <strong>Rajarata University of Sri Lanka<\/strong>, with a strong turnout from <strong>first and third-year students<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event was proudly supported by <strong>WSO2<\/strong> as the <strong>Bronze Partner<\/strong> and honored by the presence of esteemed guests:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Senior Prof. A. Atputharajah<\/strong> \u2013 Vice Chancellor, University of Vavuniya<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mr. V. Senthooran<\/strong> \u2013 Dean, Faculty of Technological Studies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ms. T. Amrithaa<\/strong> \u2013 Branch Counsellor, IEEE Student Branch \u2013 UOV<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ms. W. Pirunthavi<\/strong> \u2013 Advisor, IEEE WIE Affinity Group \u2013 UOV<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mr. T. Kartheeswaran<\/strong> and <strong>Mrs. R. Yasotha<\/strong> \u2013 Senior Lecturers, Faculty of Applied Science<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The event commenced with participant registration, followed by a <strong>welcome address<\/strong> by <strong>Ms. Chamodi Indrejith<\/strong>, Chair of IEEE WIE \u2013 UOV. A <strong>motivational speech<\/strong> by the <strong>Vice Chancellor<\/strong> highlighted the significance of <strong>collaborative, technology-driven learning<\/strong> and <strong>open-source contribution<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Highlights:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\ud83d\udd11 <strong>Keynote Session<\/strong>: Delivered by <strong>Mr. Suvin Kodituwakku<\/strong>, Senior Software Engineer at WSO2 and active contributor to the GitHub Community Sri Lanka.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\ud83d\udee0\ufe0f <strong>Parallel Technical Tracks<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Artificial Intelligence<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cloud Applications<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mobile Application Development<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These sessions were led by top-tier speakers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mr. Suvin Kodituwakku<\/strong> \u2013 Senior Software Engineer, WSO2<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mr. Chamod Shehanka Perera<\/strong> \u2013 Software Engineer II, Circles | CNCF Ambassador<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mr. Avin Indrasoma<\/strong> \u2013 GitHub Campus Expert<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mr. Lakindu Kariyawasam<\/strong> \u2013 Software Engineer Intern, WSO2<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u2753 <strong>Ask Me Anything (AMA)<\/strong>: A vibrant, all-participant session allowed students to directly interact with industry professionals, ask questions, and gain career insights.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout the day, students engaged in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hands-on coding sessions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interactive technical discussions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Networking with peers and professionals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exposure to real-world software engineering practices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants also enjoyed <strong>refreshments<\/strong>, <strong>event swags<\/strong>, and an <strong>enriching community atmosphere<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event concluded with <strong>closing remarks<\/strong> and received overwhelmingly <strong>positive feedback<\/strong>, affirming its success in <strong>empowering future tech leaders<\/strong> with essential <strong>skills, confidence<\/strong>, and <strong>industry connections<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure
