IEEE Day 2025

IEEE Day 2025 at the University of Vavuniya was a vibrant celebration dedicated to advancing technology for humanity. The event brought together university faculty, IEEE members, and enthusiastic students to explore innovative ideas and the role of engineering in shaping a sustainable future. Throughout the day, participants engaged in inspiring discussions, entertainment segments, and meaningful interactions, all aimed at strengthening the spirit of collaboration within the IEEE community.

The event commenced with a warm welcome by IEEE Day Ambassador Mr. N. Sanjeevan, followed by an insightful address from Ms. Thasika Ragupathy, Chairperson of the IEEE Student Branch. A highlight of the event included a technical session on “Humanitarian Technology and SDGs under the IEEE Umbrella,” delivered by Mr. Dinuth Amuraj, Vice Chairperson of the IEEE R10 Humanitarian Technology Activities Committee. The session emphasized how engineering solutions can address real-world societal challenges through innovative approaches aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Adding energy to the celebration, students performed musical and entertaining acts, including the talents of the Paper Monkeys group, which kept the audience actively engaged. The atmosphere was further enhanced through an interactive session conducted by Ms. Hirusha Jayasundara, encouraging student participation and peer motivation. The second half of the program featured a valuable technical session on “IEEE & Professional Development” led by Eng. Chamod Dilruk, Chairperson of the IEEE StudPro National Project and Software Engineer at WIA Systems Inc., who encouraged students to explore IEEE’s career-driven opportunities and global professional network.

A significant moment of the event was the official magazine launch, reflecting the creativity, dedication, and technical achievements of the IEEE Student Branch. The presence of Mrs. Amritha Premkumar, former Branch Counselor, added great value, as she delivered an inspiring message while distributing souvenirs to participants, appreciating the continuous progress of the IEEE community at the University of Vavuniya.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Mr. Thaksigan, expressing gratitude to all organizers, speakers, and attendees for making the celebration a memorable success. The day ended with a group photograph capturing the unity and enthusiasm of everyone who took part in this special global celebration.
